Boipeba feels distant, safe, friendly, intact, but not a desert place. It is obviously prepared for tourists (mostly Brazilians with some Europeans), but in a very discrete way.

 

The beaches are beautiful and empty (no construtions, no people), the water warm, transparent and calm and the landscape a mixture of Mata Atlántica, Restinga and Manguezal. The walk is easy but long and the temperature is not excessive thanks to the permanet breeze. You can walk almost everywhere barefoot.

 

There is a wide variety of beaches and a good list of things to do: hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, sailing on a boat, swimming in the natural pools, etc. In addition to enjoying fresh seafood, lots of local culture and a feeling of being somewhere really unusual and special.

 

The island is made up of several villages: Velha Boipeba, Moreré, Cova da Onça and Monte Alegre.

 

Distant 80 km from Salvador by the sea, getting here is an adventure: From Salvador de Bahia (the nearest international airport) it is possible to take a taxi (approximately 4 hours) to Valença, departure city for Boipeba by speedboat (approximately 1 hour). If you prefer to sleep in Salvador, you can take the boat in Mercado Modelo to Mar Grande (approximately 1 hour), then a taxi to Valença (approximately 1h30), and finally a speedboat from Valença to Boipeba.

 

It is a long way, but full of beauties, smells and sounds that only Bahia has !!
